YMC MEMBERS HELP STEPHEN MULHERN & HOLLY WILLOUGHBY LAUNCH MAGIC CIRCLE CENTENARY STAMPS

YMC MEMBERS HELP STEPHEN MULHERN & HOLLY WILLOUGHBY LAUNCH MAGIC CIRCLE CENTENARY STAMPS On Monday 14th March the Royal Mail launched their new interactive stamps to commemorate the 100th birthday of The Magic Circle. Specially invited to announce the event to a mass of assembled photographers and a TV crew was none other than The Magic Circle’s own Stephen Mulhern and his lovely co-presenter from Ministry of Mayhem, Holly Willoughby.

In the theatre of the newly refurbished Head Quarters, Alan Shaxon, President of The Magic Circle introduced Stephen who spoke briefly of his connection with the launch and then asked the media to wait a moment whilst he popped back stage to get ready to perform a “miracle”. As the stage curtains opened there he stood behind Holly who was lying on her side on a board floating in mid air! Stephen then passed a hoop round her to show there was no visible means of support. Whilst he was doing this the photographers were going mad shouting directions to “look here” and to “look there” whilst hundreds of flashes from their cameras lit the stage more brightly than a ton of flash paper!

YMC members, Troy von Scheibner and Megan Knowles-Bacon were invited to attend as a TV crew from London Tonight & BBC Breakfast TV would be there and asked to see them perform some magic. However a certain Mr. David Beckham chose that day to open a football school in London and so those camera crews were called away from The Magic Circle to cover that event instead! However all was not lost. The Press Association had also sent a photographer to provide a special set of photographs for the Royal Mail and their advertising agency to use in their promotional work. They asked Troy, Megan and me to pose for them with the stamps.

The stamps go on sale from 15th March and are interactive. Each of the stamps is a magic trick. Look out for them and have fun using them.
